Carl Hiaasen: A WOMAN OF A PIRATE TOO

Night, a romantic cruise ship, the ocean, a guy who, without thinking twice, he catches his wife and throws him overboard ... TOO MUCH OF A WOMAN is a black comedy that wins the very first lines. In short, the ingredients and the skill mix in all there are, but what really makes the difference is the ability to give shape to Hiaasen's delusional and bizarre characters, though extremely vivid.
Around the triangle of Joey (the surviving spouse), Mick (the good of round) and Chaz (her husband murderess), flocking in fact a series of supporting roles with the character and irresistible biography, "Subjects" that are printed instantly in the imagination of the reader, snatching more than a few laughs. A detective who loves snakes (and thus in constant battle with his elderly neighbors and strip), a rough bodyguard who collects commemorative plaques, a mysterious political reduced polluted to the hermit in the swamps of Florida, are just some of fools that populate the best pages of the novel. Not to mention the figure most 'puzzling of all, namely that of Chaz: the husband, wife-murder, the poor man convinced he had scored a "perfect crime". A lover of money, a veteran of adultery, cynical and inept, and the prototype of all the worst human vices, Chaz will 'throughout the book as "the wrong man at wrong to", collecting page after page of nervous breakdowns and horrific humiliation, in a crescendo that will throw the' straight into his worst nightmare, for the pleasure of Joey and our fun.

And here is the first page of the novel:

"At the stroke of eleven, a cold night in April, a woman named Joey Perrone flew down from one of the decks of luxury cruise ship Sun Duchess . While in the dark rushing waters of the Atlantic was so 'astonished that he could not even panic.
I married an asshole, he thought as he slipped the head the waves.
The impact with the water tore away the silk skirt, blouse, panties, wristwatch, sandals, but Joey did not lose our senses or calm. Obvious. She had been among the leaders of the swim team in college, a pittance biography that her husband obviously had forgotten. Keeping afloat among the foaming waves, looked after him, lit by the Sun Duchess party going off at a speed of twenty knots. Apparently, only one of the other passengers duemilaquarantanove was aware of what happened, and certainly would not go around advertising.
But that son of a bitch, he thought Joey.
He realized that the bra was down around the waist, twisting his body and he delivered. To the west, in a time of soft amber light, one could see the coast of Florida. Joey began 'to swim. "
